The future of a longtime Presbyterian Church in Marion rests in the hands of church members who will vote this Sunday on whether or not to keep the doors open or close them.
Westminster Presbyterian Church has been an active church in Marion since the 1950s. It’s membership once number more than 250, but a steady decline in membership and income has led church officials to call for a decision on the church’s future.
Pastor Jeffrey Jahn says the issue will be decided on Sunday. He says the matter may have already been decided…
Pastor Jahn says also to be decided is the future of the Westminster Pre-School, which has been in operation at the church since 1970. He says there’s a strong possibility that the pre-school may become a separate entity and be able to stay open even if the church closes.
If the church does decide to close, Jahn says it wouldn’t happen until early June.
