The congregation of a longtime Marion church made a difficult decision Sunday…they voted to close the church in a few weeks.
Pastor Jeffrey Jahn says the congregation of Westminster Presbyterian Church held a lengthy meeting Sunday afternoon to discuss the future of the church. Pastor Jahn said they then reached their decision with heavy hearts.
Westminster Presbyterian Church had been a part of Marion since the early 1950s, but had gone through a steady decline in membership and income in recent years.
Pastor Jahn says the final service will be held at the church on June 4th. He says at least one other church has expressed interest in buying the building on Jeffras Avenue and there is a strong feeling that the Westminster Pre-School will be taken over by another church and be kept open. The Pre-school has been a part of Westminster church since 1970.
