ire Dept. Radiothon Raises Money For Station #1 Grant

WBAT’s Radiothon for the Marion Fire Department Thursday helped raise about 41-hundred dollars to go toward the department getting a grant to re-build and re-open Fire Station one in downtown Marion.

Firefighters need to raise 100-thousand dollars in matching money to receive the 500-thousand dollar state grant to re-build station one, which retired Deputy Fire Chief Brian Cowgill says is needed for the safety of Marion residents.

Fire Station One was closed earlier this year because of safety concerns.

Thursday’s Radiothon included many items donated by local merchants and organizations that were sold to raise matching money to help the department get the grant that’s needed to begin the renovation work.
