Grant County Law Enforcement and Oak Hill School officials are investigating the discovery of a handgun inside the backpack of a student at Swayzee Elementary on Thursday.
School officials say the student apparently didn’t know the gun was in the backpack when he came to school. It’s believed one of his parents placed the handgun inside the backpack but intended to remove it before the student left for school.
When school officials at Swayzee were informed of the gun, they removed it from the building and called authorities.
The matter remains under investigation.
