30TH Anniversary of Seybolds In the Winter Olympics

As you watch the Winter Olympics this week, think back 30 years to when a brother and sister from Marion were among those competing for the United States.

In 1988 in Calgary, Canada, Wayne and Kim Seybold competed in the Olympics in Pairs Figure Skating.  They didn’t win a medal, but Wayne Seybold says their lives changed forever by just making it to the Olympics.  They started out as kids, roller skating at the Idlewyld Roller Palace, but then got into international competition and did well.  That’s when he says everything changed.

Seybold says the Olympic experience in Calgary was amazing, but he says they never would have made it without the financial and moral support from the people of Marion.

Today…Kim Seybold teaches skating in the Philadelphia area and Wayne still resides in Marion…having served three terms as the city’s Mayor.
