Firefighter Placed On Unpaid Leave By Board of Works

The Marion Board of Public Works has voted to place a city firefighter on unpaid administrative leave after he was charged with several criminal counts resulting from a fatal traffic accident last November.

Firefighter Weston James has been charged with several counts, including Driving Under the Influence Causing Death, Driving Under the Influence Causing Serious Bodily Injury and Neglect of a Dependent.   He was charged following a head-on collision last November on West Kem Road that killed 61-year old James Bartrum.  James and his two sons were also injured in the wreck.

The Board of Works voted to place James on unpaid administrative leave until his case is settled in court.  James has been on paid medical leave since last November following the accident.
