Report Clears Marion Police In Arrington Barber Arrest

A report conducted by an independent company that trains police officers in handling arrests of unruly suspects has cleared Marion Police officers in how they arrested a local man on April 30th.

The report cleared three officers, who had to use a taser and physical force to arrest Arrington Barber, who was running naked along a city street after officers tried to arrest him on an active warrant.  The incident was caught on video.

Mike Flynn…a retired State Police officer who is the Chief of Staff to Marion Mayor Jess Alumbaugh, said the independent findings were important to all involved.

The report said Barber disobeyed verbal commands, resisted arrest and tried to escape until he was subdued by the officers.  It cited a Supreme Court ruling that said the use of reasonable force is justified in certain cases and Barber’s arrest fit that description.

Even with the findings, city officials are arranging a meeting with Barber’s family to address any concerns they may have regarding the matter.
