A Discovery Channel special helps police find alleged shooting suspect

A man charged with the murder of a 26-year-old woman in Hammond has been arrested in California. Police say a Discovery Channel series that aired an episode about Steven Todd is what helped generate leads to track him down. Lt. Steve Kellogg told the Times of Northwest Indiana that Todd was arrested on Tuesday, identifying him by his fingerprints and tattoos. Todd is accused of shooting Katelyn Golden in the neck after a fight outside of Coach’s Corner bar in November, after she yelled at him for bumping into her car.

According to the Times of Northwest Indiana, court records indicate Golden and a male friend were outside Coach’s Corner on Nov. 24 when Todd bumped into both of them. Golden began to yell and curse at Todd, then followed him into the parking lot as he entered the passenger side of a white Dodge Charger, pulling a gun from his waistband as he entered the car.

Golden approached the Charger when Todd fired a shot through a partially open window, according to the Times. A surveillance video showed Golden backed away from the car while holding her neck and eventually collapsed.
