Marion structure fire destroys vacant house

Firefighters responded to a structure fire on the 700 block of West Third Street at about 12:30 a.m. today, to find a two-story home with heavy flame involvement.

According to Marion Fire Department fire investigator Brad Myers, it took responders approximately three hours to douse the flames. The fire caused a total loss to the property, which was last evaluated at around $50,000. According to Myers, neighboring building sustained minimal damage.

Myers said the residence was vacant and no injuries were reported.

Investigators believe the cause of the fire to be incendiary, meaning that it was not due to natural or accidental causes. Investigations into the fire are ongoing.
