A series of strategic plans from Marion Community Schools included a plan of action from Allen Elementary School officials on how the school will improve after receiving an F letter grade by the Indiana Department of Education.
After grades were released, the school system hired Anthony Williams to serve as principal and have hired 14 new teachers. The school is in their first year of a three-year partnership with outside consulting group, Edison Learning, who visits the school twice a week.
Williams says their goal is to bring the bottom 25% bracket of students with high growth to 44% from 36%, improve the top 75% bracket of students to 70-percent from 47-percent, and reduce all students with low growth from 42% to 36%.
Williams says tutoring opportunities are broadening through partnerships and learning time has increased.
This was the first year the IDOE sent representatives to struggling schools, and Williams says they’ve been supportive and encouraging during the process.
