The president of Ball State University is getting a 3.5 percent pay raise just months after her salary drew attention as one of the highest in the nation.
Ball State's trustees Wednesday approved increasing President Jo Ann Gora's base salary to about 446-thousand dollars.
Trustees President Hollis Hughes tells “The Star Press” that he believes Gora has made the university a better place and has done outstanding work with the Legislature and donors.
Gora's pay came under question after a survey by the Chronicle of Higher Education listed her 2011-2012 compensation at nearly 985-thousand dollars, the fifth-highest nationally and far ahead of the presidents at Indiana and Purdue universities. Ball State attributed about 500-thousand of that amount to deferred compensation and retention incentives.
Gora has been the president of Ball State since 2004.
