Officials of the Marion-Grant County Senior Center has received an early Christmas present...a sizeable check from the city of Marion.
Because of severe budget constraints, the city had not been able to pay the Senior Center what it had promised during the second half of 2012 and all of 2013. But Mayor Wayne Seybold said his administration had achieved the savings he had vowed by cutting all but required spending in city departments. That allowed Seybold to present the Senior Center a check for 77-thousand-500 dollars...representing the 27-thousand-500 it owed for the second half of 2012 and the full 50-thousand that had been budget for 2013.
Senior Center Director Carolyn Williams was stunned by the presentation, but Mayor Seybold said it long overdue.
The mayor said more good financial news regarding the city’s finances will be made next week.
