Committee to Study Public Safety Tax Option in Marion

by Sammy Edmonds posted Jan 29 2014 3:26PM
City Council President Henry Smith is forming a committee to look into proposing a .25% Public Safety Tax in Marion.  Marion Firefighters first proposed the increase to the Local Option Income Tax last year, but it was voted down.  The tax proposal was resurrected by Councilman Brad Luzadder Tuesday night as a measure to improve public safety in the city of Marion.

Past President Don Batchelor says the discussion going to take some time, and until he hears more on how it will be used, he remains neutral on the issue.

Smith says until a committee is formed and a recommendation is made, he also remains neutral.
