Record snowfalls and repeated thawing cycles have taken a toll on highways across the state. Grant County reported over 56 inches of snow fall so far this winter, with 33 inches in January.
County Highway Superintendent David White says he’ll likely seek more funds for fuel come mid-year. White says he normally purchases five tankers of fuel for the entire year, and they’ve already gone through three of them plowing snow and repairing roads.
Meanwhile, Governor Mike Pence announced Thursday the Indiana Department of Transportation is taking quick action to repair state highways. Currently, INDOT is working to obtain additional materials to patch roadways until temperatures improve to pave asphalt.
