Many Muncie residents and the city‘s mayor are expressing relief that the Indiana Department of Correction has stopped housing recently released sex offenders in two homes in one Muncie neighborhood.
The Department of Correction had used two houses in Muncie‘s Old West End neighborhood as temporary housing for offenders from 11 area counties who lacked a place to go. Some residents say they weren‘t told about the "D-O-C Assist" program or the proximity of sex offenders to their families.
Neighborhood association president Brad King says residents didn‘t intend to shut down the housing but wanted everyone to be aware that it existed.
