The Federal Emergency Management Agency has denied Governor Pence‘s request for a major disaster declaration for Howard County following last month‘s tornadoes.
Nearly one thousand homes sustained damage from the November 17th storms, with nearly 200 sustaining major damage or were destroyed.
Indiana Department of Homeland Security spokesman John Erickson says they‘re disappointed with FEMA‘s decision.
The request for assistance would have included grants and low-interest loans for citizens and low-interest loans for businesses affected by the tornadoes and severe storms.
Governor Mike Pence has requested the Indiana Department of Homeland Security submit an immediate appeal of FEMA’s decision.
