Fatal Semi Fire at I-69 Rest Stop

by Sammy Edmonds posted Oct 8 2013 2:03PM
State Police and Delaware County authorities say a truck driver died early this morning when his rig caught fire and exploded as it sat at an I-69 rest stop about a mile south of the Grant County line.

The fire was reported just after 5:30am in the southbound rest stop on I-69 in northwestern Delaware County.  State Police say the driver was in the sleeper unit of his rig and was apparently the only occupant.  The semi was registered out of Ontario, Canada, but it’s not clear where the driver was from.

The Delaware County Coroner’s office says the driver likely died from smoke inhalation before the truck’s gas tanks exploded.  The say the man’s body was burned beyond recognition and dental records will be needed to confirm his identity.
