One week ago it was damaged by burst water pipes, now a historical building was further damaged in a fire that occurred Tuesday. Marion firefighters were again called to Aunt Sue’s Tea Room on Wabash Avenue in Marion, but this time it was on the report of flames coming from the third floor of the structure. Marion Fire Chief Paul David said his crew did a great job in putting out the fire in less than an hour, leaving the structure standing with moderate damage.
Owner Randy Wagaman says while waiting on an official damage assessment, he remains hopeful to reopen, although the building is up for sale. The historical Plato home was converted into the Tea Room in 2005.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Wabash Avenue was closed for a couple of hours but is now back open.
