Flood Warnings Remain Following Heavy Weekend Rains

by Sammy Edmonds posted Jan 2 2014 11:18AM
Flood Warnings remain in effect for area rivers following heavy rains over the weekend, which combined with snow melt caused rivers and streams to rise rapidly.
The Mississinewa River at Marion was supposed to have crested late Sunday night, but did not.  The river at Marion is still rising slowly and stands this morning at about 13.3 feet...that’s more than a foot above flood stage and the Mississinewa River is still slowly rising.
The flooding of the Mississinewa forced authorities to close off Matter Park Sunday night, and that meant the Marion Walkway of Lights was left dark and closed to the public Sunday evening.
A few Grant County roads were closed due to high water, but no homes have been evacuated in Grant County.
In northern Delaware County, about two dozen homes were voluntarily evacuated near Eaton because of high water along the Mississinewa River.
