Former Democratic Congressman Andy Jacobs, Junior has died at the age of 81. The iconic Hoosier lawmaker had been ill and bed-ridden for a couple of years.
He is being eulogized by a wide range of current and former lawmakers as a "people‘s politician" who never let the power of politics and personal position go to his head. The man who once defeated Jacobs in 1972, former Indianapolis mayor and congressman, Bill Hudnut, and current US Representative Andre Carson praised Jacobs for his sense of doing what was right, not what was politically advantageous for him.
Jacobs served the Indiana 11th District from 1964 to 1972, and then from 1974 until he retired in 1997.
