Fruits and Vegetables Promote Longer Life

Eating seven or more portions of fruit and vegetables a day would help people live longer.  University College London researchers say the World Health Organization recommends five servings a day and few people eat that many.  However, they say analysis of about 65-thousand men and women's dietary habits showed the more produce items people ate, the less likely they were to die prematurely.  
 
Seven-a-day cut the risk of dying from cancer or heart disease, with fresh veggies offering the most protection.
 
One researcher said fruit and vegetables may have a protective effect because they contain antioxidants which repair damage to cells.
