Motorcyclists and bicyclists could legally run red lights on occasion under a bill headed to Governor Pence’s desk.
State Senator Brandt Hershman says many traffic lights operate on sensors which detect metal and turn the light green. But motorcycles and bicycles don‘t have enough metal to trigger the lights, leaving cyclists waiting at an intersection until a car comes along to trip the sensors.
The bill authored by Kokomo Representative Mike Karickhoff would let bikers go through the red light if they‘ve been sitting there for two minutes and there‘s no traffic coming.
The bill passed the House by a vote of 82-10.
