The Grant County Council has stalled the impending wind farm project in Southwestern Grant County after hearing from persistent concerned residents. The council intended to vote on amendments to their agreement with E-On Climate and Renewables which would have increased setbacks of turbines, decreased the number of turbines to sixty, and increased county revenue. But Council President Jim McWhirt says those changes weren’t enough to satisfy all council members. He says after hearing the voice of citizens, the council took no action, which may have killed the agreement. E-On’s attorney, Thomas Hunt, says the deal stands. The council’s attorney was not available for comment.
Wind farms have been a controversy because of their potential nuisance and damaging effects as well as their connection with homes losing value.
County officials are awaiting legal advice before moving forward.
