Grant County Presses Forward with Salin Bank Purchase

by Sammy Edmonds posted Feb 26 2014 3:48PM
Grant County is pressing forward in acquiring the former Salin Bank building in downtown Marion.  The County Commissioners approved the agreement Tuesday allowing the building to be purchased for one dollar.
Commissioner President Mike Burton says the building will be used for records storage and will also house staff currently working at the Andrew Benedict Center.  Burton says they want to discontinue use of the center saying the off-site location and structure is not conducive to their needs.
Burton says although the new building is virtually free, it will need to undergo at least $360,000 in repairs within the next five years.  However, Burton says the acquisition is better than purchasing a new building and adds the location will be ideal in the event Grant County switches to central dispatch.
He says they hope to close on the property Friday.
