Hogs to Stay on Courthouse Square for Now

by Sammy Edmonds posted Apr 3 2014 10:50AM
Main Street Marion will continue to tell the “Home of the Hog” story by leaving the hog statues on the courthouse square for now.

Main Street Marion Director Loretta Tappan says after they announced they would be selling the hog statues, they received opposition from community members.  Tappan says a lot of Marion citizens like the hogs and the story they represent.

However, during April’s “First Friday” event this week, one pig will be auctioned off.  The “Maid of Marion,” which was damaged in a car accident last year will be sold ‘as is’ to the highest bidder.

Tappan says this will be their first fundraiser during “First Fridays.”  Proceeds will be used to fund more “First Friday” events.

April’s “First Friday” will take place in the courtyard on 3rd Street just north of the Grant County Courthouse starting at 11am Friday and will include live music, food, and the silent auction for “Maid of Marion.”
