The General Assembly must wrap up its work by Friday, but legislative leaders plan to end the session a day early. Legislators are still seeking final agreements on several bills.
House Speaker Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) says there‘s "agreement in principle" on a bill melding components of House and Senate plans to reduce the business personal property tax. Bosma says details are still being finalized, but the proposal would give counties the option of abolishing the tax on new equipment as the House proposed, or exempting businesses which pay negligible amounts, as the Senate recommended. It would also give counties the option of a so-called "super-abatement" incentive which would reduce an individual business‘s taxes for 25 years instead of the standard 10.
