More Cable Barriers are going to be installed soon in the median of I-69 in Delaware and Grant Counties.
The Indiana Department of Transportation has awarded a contract for the installation of about nine miles of Cable Barriers in the median of I-69 between State Road 28 in northern Delaware County and State Road 26 in southern Grant County. The work should be completed sometime this summer.
Since 2005, Indiana has installed 370 miles of median cable barriers statewide. INDOT prioritizes installation in areas where crash history, traffic volumes, speed, median width and road geometry dictate the greatest need.
Cable barrier systems are lines of highly tensioned cables between anchored posts in the medians of roads designed to control cross-median crashes, which lead to nearly two-thirds of fatal accidents nationwide.
