Indiana fourth graders got modestly higher math and reading scores on this year‘s National Assessment of Educational Progress test. Indiana 4th graders were among the top five gainers in the country last year for reading and math. 8th grade scores were also up, though not as much.
State Superintendent Glenda Ritz issued a statement attributing the scores to "hard work and dedication" from teachers, administrators, parents and students. But supporters of her predecessor, Tony Bennett, say much of the credit should go to reforms put in place by Bennett and former Governor Mitch Daniels.
