Four conservative lawmakers will meet with Ball State President Jo Ann Gora to discuss the controversy of intelligent design.
The Muncie “Star Press” reports Gora received a letter from legislators, questioning whether her actions respected academic freedoms, free speech and/or religious liberty after a course was eliminated suggesting evidence of intelligent design, then a code was created to disallow speech surrounding the theory.
Gora last summer argued that intelligent design is overwhelmingly a religious belief and not a scientific theory.
Legislators told Gora they need to investigate whether Ball State has violated state educational policy, legal requirements and the university’s own standards.
Gora has agreed to meet with them in person, but when that will happen has not yet been determined.
