Marion Community School leaders have come up with a plan to make up the seven days lost to extreme winter weather this year. The plan falls within the guidelines set down by the State Department of Education on how school systems can make up the lost days.
Superintendent Brad Lindsay says it means lengthening the school day by one hour at each Marion school building starting next week.
All kindergarten through 8th grade students will star the day 30-minutes earlier and end 30 minutes later. Marion High School will start 10-minutes earlier and then teachers will adjust their schedule throughout the day to make up the additional time.
Lindsay says the additional instructional time is vital to prepare students for the ISTEP tests that begin in March.
The longer school days in Marion will begin next Monday and run through April 18th.
School officials say Spring Break will not be affected.
