Madison County authorities had to be aided by Indiana National Guard members in rescuing a rural Anderson family that escaped their burning home early Tuesday morning.
Authorities say the family had escaped a fire in their rural home east of Anderson just after midnight. A snow plow driver called for help when he came upon the fire and found the victims huddled inside a vehicle.
National Guard troops using two Humvees went to the seen and took the victims to Community Hospital in Anderson where they were treated for smoke inhalation and exposure. All were later released.
Meanwhile, other rescue workers recovered two family pets and took them to an animal shelter for treatment. The family’s home was destroyed in the flames.
