Marion Fire Chief Paul David: Fire Prevention Week

by Sammy Edmonds posted Oct 14 2013 2:54PM
This is National Fire Prevention Week and firefighters everywhere are urging homeowners, business people and even school children about the need to not just learn fire safety, but to LIVE it.
Marion Fire Chief Paul David says 2 out of every 3 home fires happen in the kitchen.  He says the biggest cause of kitchen fires is simply leaving things unattended on the stove.
Chief David says not cleaning greasy spots around the kitchen is also a major cause of kitchen fires.
He also urges homeowners to have regular inspections of their furnace and to have routine maintenance performed at least once a year.
But his best advice is to invest in smoke detectors and make sure they are operating properly.
