JCPenney is closing 33 stores nationwide slashing 2,000 jobs, and two of those on the chopping block are in Indiana including one in Marion.
Five Points Mall’s JCPenney will close along with a store in Warsaw.
Marion Redevelopment Director Lisa Dominissi says JCPenney’s government affairs representative contacted them Wednesday regarding the closure.
She says twelve permanent employees will be displaced to other locations, but she’s unsure what will happen to all regular part-time employees.
A date for the closure has not yet been announced.
JCPenney represenatives told NBC that they are closing the 33 underperforming stores nationwide in a measure to save approximately $65-million.
Penney shares fell .9% in after-hours trading.
