Marion Police Purchase New K9

by Sammy Edmonds posted Mar 11 2014 3:17PM
Three weeks following the passing of K9 Officer “Caro” due to cancer, the Marion Police Department has purchased a new dog.  Captain Steve Scott says timing worked out despite the circumstances, saying a dog of interest had recently been sold back to a reputable breeder in Utah.
Scott says it cost a total of $3,800 to acquire the new police dog named “Kane.”  He says it was an exceptional deal because they bought him directly from the breeder.  Scott says they have to stay frugal when relying on donations for purchasing dogs and a bare-bones budget for maintaining them.
Kane will start training in drug detection and criminal apprehension next month and will be in the care of Officer Joel Thomas.
