Marion Community School officials are considering a re-districting plan for all four elementary schools in the district, beginning in the fall.
According to Director of Support Services Troy Freeman, the changes are to help balance out the classrooms at the elementary schools. The last re-districting occurred in 2010, just after Lincoln Elementary closed. Since then, Francis Slocum and Allen have become overcrowded, while Kendall and Riverview are under capacity.
Freeman says their goal in re-districting is to make all the schools as equal as they can, and not only when it comes to numbers, but socio-economic and gender balance as well.
School officials are still settling on the exact boundary changes, but they aim to negatively affect as few families as possible, and to not drastically increase transportation costs.
