Matthew Tyra Sentenced to 65 years for Murder

by Sammy Edmonds posted Dec 3 2013 3:02PM
After two full days of testimony, 18-year-old Matthew Tyra has been sentenced to 65 years in prison for killing a Gas City woman.

Ashley’s father, Bob Rheam, said his mother was murdered in 1965.  He says the ruling isn’t really what he would call ‘justice’...

Grant Superior Court 2 Judge Dana Kenworthy ruled that Tyra, who was 17 at the time, murdered 28-year-old Ashley Rheam in cold blood.  While taking his emotional disorders and poor upbringing into consideration, she noted Tyra’s life-long aggressive behavior, his criminal history of battery, and his reported desires to hurt others.

Although Tyra took the stand yesterday stating her murder was unintentional, Kenworthy found him lacking in remorse for Rheam and her family.
