Students in the Metro Schools of Wabash County stayed home Wednesday because of the snowstorm, but they all went to class via their personal school computers.
With state permission, Metro Schools experimented with an “E-Learning Day” during the snowstorm and kids learned while teachers taught...all from their own homes.
Superintendent Doctor Sandra Weaver said the experiment was a huge success. Weaver said attendance was taken by work that was completed and sent by e-mail to the teachers.
State Department of Education officials say they were very interested in seeing how the day went and they will count the day as a school day for Metro Schools, despite everyone being at home.
Weaver says an E-Learning day can only happen when school officials have advance warning and make sure that students all take their electronic devices home with them in preparation for learning online.
