The Indiana Court of Appeals Thursday rejected arguments made by convicted killer Terry Rutledge, and have upheld convictions set a year ago for murdering a Muncie woman then setting her body on fire.
The Star Press reports Rutledge’s appeal stated the judge failed to give jurors proper instructions and should not have allowed the jury to hear text messages he had sent immediately following Tonia Ingram’s death.
Testimony indicated he strangled Ingram, then sent text messages asking for help from friends in an apparent attempt to hide evidence or flee Muncie.
Rutledge is serving a 65-year prison term.
