Wednesday was the first day to file as a candidate in the 2014 Primary Election. Grant County Clerk Mark Florence says a good portion of county government offices are up for grabs this year including Sheriff, Clerk of the Circuit Court, Auditor, Coroner, Surveyor, Assessor, Commissioner, Council District members, Town Trustees and board members.
Superior Court I and III Judges as well as Prosecuting Attorney get filed through the state.
On the first day to file, County Council President Jim McWhirt filed to run for county auditor against incumbent Roger Bainbridge, who also filed yesterday.
In the most contested race so far, two of the four expected candidates for Sheriff, Grant County Sheriff’s Captain Kevin Pauley and Detective Captain Reggie Nevels, filed their candidacy yesterday. Marion Deputy Police Chief David Day and Detective Captain Jay Kay have yet to turn in their paperwork.
The deadline to file for the May Primary is February 7th at noon.
