Pedestrian Hit by Car Pronounced Brain Dead

by Sammy Edmonds posted Jan 2 2014 11:20AM
A pedestrian that was struck by a car Friday in Marion has died.  Marion Deputy Police Chief Cliff Sessoms says the 62-year-old Marion man was pronounced brain dead that morning.  Sessoms says the driver, 32-year-old Anthony Sovern of Anderson told police he was traveling at night along South Branson Street approaching East 3rd when the impact occurred before he knew what had happened.

Sovern told police he immediately got out of the car and tried to administer first aid to the man after telling a passerby to call 9-1-1.

The pedestrian was flown to Lutheran Hospital where he was later pronounced brain dead, but officials have not yet released his identity because of difficulty in contacting next of kin.
