A longtime Marion bowling alley may soon have new life as a housing development.
The Marion Commission on Industrial Development saw preliminary plans for the Plaza Green Apartments, which could be developed out of the old Plaza Bowl, located next to the Five Points Mall.
Initial plans call for the old bowling alley to be converted into 38 apartment units, centered around a courtyard.
Program Director Janet Pearson says the development would be good for the residents living there as well as businesses in the area.
The City is working with the Grant County Economic Growth Council and the Affordable Housing Corporation on the plans. The city bought the property after the Plaza Bowl closed. Once built, it would go back on the tax roles.
The project could cost up to six-million dollars. City officials plan to seek bids on the apartments and hope to have plans finalized by next spring and break ground on the project by late summer of 2014.
