Monday was yet another day off for many area school kids because of bad weather, and the numbers are piling up. Some area school systems have missed ten or more days since early January alone.
While State Law requires school systems in Indiana to make up days missed due to bad weather, Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz says her department is considering waiving some of those missed days. She says the main issue now is the effect on students and upcoming I-STEP tests.
Ritz says they’re investigating allowing possible extensions for the I-STEP assessments and giving flexibility to school systems on when they give the tests. She says a big concern is making sure teachers have enough class time to teach the standards to their students before the kids take the I-STEP tests.
