The Indiana Senate Committee on Education and Career Development Wednesday approved legislation authored by State Senator Jim Banks to grant Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne with more flexibility and autonomy.
Currently, Purdue oversees I-P-F-W's operations. The new bill would allow I-P-F-W to determine its own student housing needs and create its own doctoral programs.
I-P-F-W is the fifth largest university in Indiana with more than 14-thousand students.
The bill now moves to the full Senate.
