Senator Coats Offers Amendment to Unemployment Program

Indiana Senator Dan Coats is proposing an amendment to the Emergency Unemployment Compensation Program in response to the legislature’s unemployment extension consideration.  
Senator Coats’ amendment is designed to ensure that those receiving unemployment benefits are truly eligible. The program is meant to support jobless individuals who are actively searching for work but unable to find it.
Indiana employers have seen an influx of people who turn down jobs in order to keep collecting unemployment benefits, and the Coats amendment aims to stop this trend by refusing aid to those who are turning down suitable work offers.
