Severe Sunday Storm Damage

Widespread damage and destruction is reported across the Midwest following violent storms Sunday.
In Grant County, many homes, businesses and outbuildings were damaged or destroyed by winds that were clocked as high as 80 miles an hour. Trees, power lines and utility poles were snapped and strewn across wide areas.
Damage at the Dollar General Distribution Center at I-69 and State Road 18 was heavy when winds blew in a 50-foot section of the south wall. Employees at the time were safely inside a storm shelter and no one was hurt.
At least two mobile homes at the nearby Summit Village Trailer Park were blown on their sides. Many homes in the Swayzee and Jalapa areas suffered extensive damage.
In Marion, many business and homes were damaged, many trees were snapped and blocked roads. But Mayor Wayne Seybold said the worst occurred at Dollar General...
Several homes in the area of 9th and Branson in Marion were evacuated briefly after a gas line broke.
Despite the widespread damage, authorities report only a few minor injuries in Grant County.
