Last week‘s entry of a Carmel CPA into the race for state auditor leaves just one statewide race on next year‘s ballot still in flux.
So far, Marion Mayor Wayne Seybold is the only person to announce his candidacy for state treasurer on the Republican ticket. State Democratic Chairman John Zody says he‘s hoping to locate a candidate as quickly as possible.
State Republican Chairman Tim Berry, a former two-term treasurer, says it‘s possible another Republican might challenge Seybold, but says he‘s not aware of any laying groundwork so far. He says he‘d prefer not to have any contested races at the party‘s state convention, so Republicans can concentrate on victory in November. He says every day that passes without another candidate makes Seybold‘s position stronger.
