Sweetser Hires Interim Town Marshall

by Sammy Edmonds posted Oct 21 2013 3:26PM
The Town of Sweetser has a new Town Marshall, at least on an interim basis.

The Sweetser Town Council last night hired 59-year old Bill Freet as the town’s interim Marshall, beginning next Wednesday.  Freet spent 30-years as a Marion Police officer and most recently has been a special deputy with the Grant County Sheriff’s Department working security at the Grant County Courthouse.

Sweetser has been without a Marshall since Chris Tarlton was suspended and placed on administrative leave in early August.  He remains on leave.  A month later, the town’s only deputy resigned.  The Grant County Sheriff’s Department has been handling calls for Sweetser since that time.

Freet will be paid hourly by Sweetser and will remain a member of the Sheriff’s Department while serving as the interim Town Marshall in Sweetser.
