Dunham's Sports was awarded tax abatement Tuesday by the Marion City Council. The council unanimously passed a resolution to grant ten years in tax savings to the company.
However, discussions arose concerning the turnover rate at the Dunham's Distribution Center. Although Dunham's officials admitted turnover at their current facility is around 50%, Vice President Doug Tracey said they're working to improve their workplace environment. He says building a larger facility, enhancing technology and adding jobs to balance workloads will be conducive in their efforts.
Dunham's will begin constructing the 735,000 square-foot facility to be operational by the fall. 135 full-time jobs will be created within five years at that site. Meantime, the company will relocate their retail store into a bigger space on Western Avenue adding a number of jobs there as well.
