An attentive teenager and his barking dog apparently helped save the life of an injured Madison County woman.
Police say the 15-year-old boy was in his home in Alexandria late Sunday night when his dog started barking. The boy opened a window to see if he could hear or see anything out of the ordinary, when he heard a faint voice saying "Help me!"
The teenager walked outside, listening for the voice, then walked in the direction from which he believed it was coming. He eventually located the voice, which was coming from the garage of a nearby home.
The boy called 911 and officers were sent to the home where they found 82-year-old Margie Humphrey lying on the garage floor. Humphrey told police she had fallen hours earlier and could not get up.
Humphrey was taken to St. Vincent Hospital in Anderson for treatment. Police estimate she had fallen about 12 hours before the boy found her and say the boy and his dog saved her life.
