Nearly a foot of snow on Sunday and now temperatures that will rival that of the Arctic Circle today. It’s all thanks to Mother Nature’s Winter Wrath.
Most area counties are under Travel Warnings, meaning no travel is allowed except for emergency vehicles. That includes, Grant, Delaware, Blackford, Howard, Huntington, Wabash, Miami and Madison counties. Wells county is under a Travel Watch category, which allows only essential travel such as to and from work or emergencies. Area police urge motorists to stay off roads if at all possible.
Virtually all schools in the area are closed today, with complete listings on our website. That includes most universities what were returning from Semester Break, including Ball State, Indiana Wesleyan, Taylor, Anderson, Huntington and Ivy Tech campuses in Marion, Muncie and Anderson...all shut down by yesterday’s snowstorm and winds that continue to drift the snow today, plus temperatures well below zero with wind chills in the 30 to 40 below zero range.
While area residents try to dig out, Emergency Management officials around the area warn residents to be wary of the bitterly cold temperatures that could be fatal if skin is exposed for only a few minutes.
